The Alder is the one for family weeks and old friends. There’s a table long enough for all of you, and a stream to fall asleep to.

Three bedrooms sit along the back of the house, each with its own window on the water. The kitchen is built for cooking together, with a proper oven and more pans than you’ll need. Dogs are welcome, and there’s a towel by the door for when they find the stream.

Dogs are welcome, though not on the beds. Please keep the stream gate closed, because the lane is close.

Deep, cold and clear, with a flat rock for your towel. We swim here from May, and the brave ones start in April.

The bread comes out at eight and is usually gone by ten. Get the rye, and don’t skip whatever’s still warm.
